AT least a hundred,000 elvers

AT least a hundred,000 elvers (younger eels) were dispersed to the communal our bodies of water in Cagayan River and its tributaries, in keeping with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).

Under the Stock Enhancement of Elvers Program (SEEP), the BFAR has been dispersing elvers annually to preserve and propagate the dwindling population of eels (Anguilla) within the Cagayan Valley area.

The elvers have been dispersed in areas that have been declared as sanctuaries, wherein there’s history of abundance of eel population within the beyond.

Areas which have been included inside the BFAR’s stock enhancement program this 12 months are the cities of Gattaran and Baggao in Cagayan; San Mariano, Angadanan, San Guillermo, and San Pablo in Isabela; Aglipay, Cabarroguis, Maddela and Nagtipunan in Quirino; and Alfonso Castañeda in Nueva Vizcaya.

According to BFAR, catching of eels may be a supply of income and supply of meals amongst fishermen in inland areas. Eels also play an essential function in the environment or surroundings.
